Kanishka opened in March 2019 to global acclaim by Atul Kochhar, a visionary in UK’s Indian dining scene for over 30 years

Named for King Kanishka, the restaurant is inspired by this “King of Kings” achievements. Widely respected and honoured by his subjects, King Kanishka was regarded as the greatest king who ever lived due to his kindness, humility and sense of equality.

Meet the Chef

Atul Kochhar was the first Indian chef to receive a Michelin star for innovative fine dining cuisine in 2001, winning a second in 2007. Atul invites diners to experience a journey of Indian gastronomic discovery combining modern techniques to traditional recipes and ingredients.

In 2023, Atul appointed his protegee, Ashok Kumar, as Executive Chef. Ashok has over fifteen years’ experience in the hospitality industry, working alongside Atul in many of his restaurants. An exciting young chef, Ashok won the Lumina Challenge in 2023.

First coming under Atul’s wing at the Colony Bar and Grill in Marylebone. Forming something of a culinary partnership with Atul, his new role sees him following in Atul’s footsteps, using authentic techniques and flavours combined with the freshest British produce to produce dynamic seasonal menus, re-interpreting traditional regional recipes with a modern touch.
